Back Pain & sciatica

Low back pain is a common problem and  if you are suffering from it you are not alone. Although back pain can have multitude of causes the vast majority of low back pain is mechanical in nature and can be managed with conservative care.

Back pain and sciatica are closely related medical conditions. Sciatica is inflammation of a nerve which starts from back and continues till legs through buttocks and back of  thigh. Whenever there is compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, it results in following symptoms.

  • Low back pain that radiates down the leg

  • Leg pain with burning and tingling

  • Numbness in the leg or feet

  • Continual pain on one or both sides of the buttock

  • Trouble sitting and getting up or standing for long time

Sciatica though is not a diagnosis but a presentation of other medical conditions like Intervertebral disc prolapse, Degenerative Disc Disease, Bony growths (osteophytes), Piriformis, Lumbar Spondylosis, Spondylolisthesis, Lumbar spinal Stenosis. At synchrony we identify the root cause with our comprehensive assessment and for treatment we use hands on therapies like Myofascial  release, Lumbar Joint Mobilization & Manipulation and Neurodynamics to work on the nerve.

These passive therapies are aided with Individualized exercise program which start with spinal decompression exercises, movement based training of core muscles and corrective exercises. These exercises helps in long term recovery of Back and Sciatica Pain.

Neck pain & headache

Neck pain is one of the most common debilitating musculoskeletal issue. Unfortunately people  bear it for long before they take it up seriously, which can progressively lead to severe and chronic pain. Neck Pain could be caused because of  degenerative disc, Bony growths (osteophytes), nerve irritation, muscle or joint stiffness and Thoracic outlet compromise. Quite often it is associated with the headaches which are referred to as cervicogenic headaches.

Headaches can be severe and disabling in many cases. Repetitive episodes of headaches can be caused due to a multitude of issues. Although headaches may be neurological a wide number of cases may be suffering from tension, cervicogenic or postural headaches. Even with migraines, there is an associated dysfunction of fascial (Soft tissue) mobility.

At synchrony, we talk to you about your medical history, help you describe your pain using body diagrams, perform a thorough physical examination and help determine whether and to what extent treatment may be helpful.

Our therapies will involve craniosacral therapy, manual/osteopathic therapy, fascial manipulation, sensory deprivation, postural exercises and relaxation techniques.

Note: We treat the type of headaches within our scope of practice. In some cases, we may refer you to a physician or neurologist for further diagnostic testing and continue treatment only after appropriate referral.

DJD (Degenerative Joint Disorders) refers to changes in joint structure following degeneration or arthritis. Typically the joints which bear weight are more prone to it, with the knee and hip being most common. some of the common conditions arises due to this are:

  • Osteoarthritis (knee/ hip).

  • Lumbar spondylosis, Facet arthropathy.

  • Cervical spondylosis.

  • Peri-arthritis of shoulder.

Physiotherapy has been proven to be effective to reduce symptoms associated with arthritis and also aid in preventing progression. At synchrony we emphasize on corrective exercises to reduce abnormal loading pattern to reduce pain. Other interventions involve dry needling, corrective taping/bracing, fascial therapy and manual mobilization.

Musculoskeletal Injuries

An Injury can be really painful, inconvenient, or just a niggle. Injuries are diverse and so are the cause. Broadly it can be classified into traumatic and overuse/repetitive stress injuries.

Injuries today have a high prevalence in our society. According to a research 40 %, Indians suffer from Musculoskeletal disorders. A huge number of such cases turn into chronic condition due to lack of proper and targeted treatment.

We want to help you and get you recovered as fast as possible and for that we perform a detailed orthopaedic (clinical) examination to determine your needs.

Our approach is, therefore, adaptable to the patient's needs We use our techniques in best possible way through use of Manual therapy and Individualized corrective exercises as we ensure that everyone is provided with the best possible care using the latest in scientific evidence based research combined with proven treatment methods. At Synchrony, our comprehensive clinical approach attempts to provide long-term solutions to injury rehabilitation and prevention

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)

A poorly explored area in India most Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain or jaw pain goes undiagnosed. TMJ pain can lead to:

·         neck pain

·         headaches

·         popping, clicking and grinding of TMJ

·         Difficulty in opening the jaw and chewing

Treatment may involve soft tissue and joint mobilization, exercises, and postural training.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis Is the development of lateral curvatures in the spine. It could be a single curve or might develop many secondary curves in response to a primary curve. Most common reasons are- growth spurt in adolescents, poor postural habits, but a lot of time it is idiopathic ( of unknown cause). It could be a flexible curve or a rigid curve which decides the severity and the prognosis of the condition. In most cases, it can be stopped from increasing, can be reversed and can be stabilized with a good posture restoration program which includes corrective mobilization, movement training and muscle stabilization. We at synchrony treat spine in a three dimensional plane to de rotate, elongate and stabilize.
